Globally, 2020 has been a whirlwind.
I know that I’ve heard it and read this statement often, ” Man, I can’t wait for the year to be over”. We can’t control our initial thoughts. As humans, we’re emotional beings. However, we can shift our thoughts and train our mind to think differently. What we resist persists. Training our mind is a process just like training any other part of our body.
There’s still 4 months of the year to capitalize on and make strides in our vision coming to fruition. Here are a few steps to make that happen:
- Podcasts and/or books for personal development
- Positive affirmations
- Make goal cards in present tense and carry them with you
- Morning and nightly routines
- Surround yourself with positive influences
- Realize that successful people have the same problems as anyone else, just different solutions
- Talk about your vision with others
Whatever your vision is, find materials on that subject and broaden your scope of knowledge- whether that be leadership, training for a marathon, investing, etc. Podcasts and books and/or audibles are great tools for that and to shape your mindset around achieving your desired result.
Be kind to yourself. Put affirmations on your lock screen of your phone on your car visor; somewhere you see them often. Confidence is key in success. If you’ve never climbed a mountain before, are you going to have the confidence to master climbing Mt. Everest? Of course not. We are here and we all have a purpose. Remind yourself of that daily.
Same goes for goal cards. They are our map to getting where we want to be. If you’ve never been somewhere before, how do you know the route without a map or GPS? Write them in present tense as if it has already happened. Put it in the universe and speak it into existence.
Morning and nightly routines are so important. If you’re flying by the seat of your pants and not prepared, productivity is minimal. That could mean fatigue, forgetfulness, ill mood, etc. Our routines allow us to show up for ourselves first and that enables us to be available and attentive to others. Great practices to include in routines are exercise- get those endorphins flowing, affirmations/meditation, bedtimes/ wakeup times, meal prep, packing your lunch the night before, and so on forth.
For us at Catalyst, we refuse to be victims of things we can’t control. During this time of being in what are uncertain times for a lot of people, we’ve chosen to implement all of the above and hone in on our skills to come together stronger than ever as a team. We have goals, a vision, and we want to uplift others. The pain of staying the same, is greater than that of change and the necessary steps to reach that vision.
“A want or a desire is an idea and not big enough to motivate us to come through. A vision is a plan and involves those around us- talk about those things and make it apparent in your behaviors. Your family, friends, anyone in your life will be more understanding if they’re aware of what you’re working towards.” ( Colleen Buck, CEO) The best advice I can give is: Use times of adversity to be proactive rather than reactive. Don’t isolate yourself and aim to achieve your goals in silence. Live in a village and not on an island. By doing this, you’ll be surprised at the accountability and how you can influence others without even knowing.
